I started in the electrical trade in 1972 as an Apprentice. I passed my Journeyman test 1976. I earned my Limited Electrical license May 1978, my Unlimited License in the fall of 1983 and NC Inspectors License in 1984. I went to work as an electrical inspector with the City of Charlotte in 1979. The City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County merged their inspection departments in 1984. I started instructing apprentices at CPCC (Central Piedmont Community College) in 1980. I taught there for over 30 years. Additionally, I coached classes for people taking their electrical exams. After qualifying as a trainer, I started teaching classes for the NC Inspectors Licensing test in 2006. This class is required by NC Department of Insurance (DoI). I teach Continuing Education for NC and have been doing so since it first became a standard requirement.
Since retiring from Mecklenburg County, I have also qualified to teach classes for the Instructors Certification Training Program. I am a Craft Instructor with the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). I perform individual assessments to assure that electricians meet or exceed NCCER Standards. I also continue to instruct modules of the apprentice classes as needed. Also since retiring, I have gotten my Commercial Electrical Inspectors Certificate from the International Code Council. I am a member of the IAEI (International Association of Electrical Inspectors). I serve on the NC Ellis Canady Chapter Education Committee. I was named the North Carolina Continuing Education Instructor of the Year by the State Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors for 2011. I now am a member of the CAROLINAS ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS ASSCOCIATION.
I also have a continuing education class at their office each month. My wife and I travel most of the summer but are back in the Charlotte area monthly so our grandson Bradley won't forget who we are. I am a Retired Navy Senior Chief after 25 years. (Naval reserve. Hal-4 was the helicopter squadron I was in as an aircrewman, rescue swimmer. Having fun doing our duty to the country)
